April 17 Readings

Today's reading Luke 14.1-24

The Pharisees challenged Jesus on whether it was lawful to heal on the Sabbath. Jesus, being Jesus, healed the man anyway and gave them a parable. You want to be exalted then become humble. Wait a minute, what Jesus said is counter to how things work in the real world. God's ways are not our ways, etc..

If you do not think of yourself as highly as you should, people will take notice. It os better for people to take notice of how you conduct yourself in a humble fashion rather than grabbing for the highest position in life.

When you invite someone, it is natural to invite people we feel can repay us in one way or the other but Jesus pointed out that this should not be the case. Instead we should reach to those who cannot repay us socially, financially, etc.. because our reward will be in heaven...

Samuel Brings About Transition
Today's reading Romans 6

This chapter deals with the ugliness of sin.For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Application
The bad news: You don't know horrible how sin is as God knows it. We are like pigs wallowing in our sins and completely unaware of its deadliness.
The good news: You are forgiven of your sins when you realize that you need God's forgiveness.

Verses to meditate upon: 23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[b] Christ Jesus our Lord.

READING LIST FOR New Testament in One Year
This is the first missionary journey where Paul and Barnabas was sent out by the Holy Spirit.z9v. 1-3), on cyprus v. 4-12, in Psidian Antioch (v. 13-52).

Paul continued with his testimony of Jesus Christ to the synagigue rulers in Psidian Antioch. Jesus Christ fulfilled the Scriptures and God's dealings with Israel. It is through Jesus that we have forgiveness of our sins (38) and to those who believes are justified before God, the Law cannot save the Jews. The gospel is available to every person, it is up to them to accept or reject it.

The ministry has rewards as well as dissapointments. We should learn from Paul he started from the Scriptures and build his way to prepare the people for the gospel.
