Today's Reading Luke 22.31-46
Luke 22 with Commentaries, verse by verse
Simon Peter had a trial to face, Jesus had allowed Satan to sift hum as wheat. Jesus was understanding even today as our High priest because He knows our frailty. Peter meant it that he was ready to go with Jesus to prison and death. We may feel that way as well but we have the human flesh that we can also fail our Lord. Let us not say that we will be faithful to the Lord in trial and temptations but humble ourselves and pray for strength.
Jesus was letting them know that in the past, people had shown hospitality to them in verse 35, but now thing s would change, there would be opposition, the disciples would have to fend for themselves to pay for their clothing and provisions. Jesus mentioned even getting a sword. Then he pointed out that the prophecy about His death would soon be fulfilled/ The disciples were not listening to Jesus closely. They were focused on getting two swords. Jesus was sarcastic when He said to get two swords.
Luke 22.40-46; Matthew 26.36-46; Mark 14.32-42, Jesus went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives, He warned them about praying that they would not fall into temptation twice (v. 40 and 46) . He was obedient to the Father and set the Perfect example for us ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me, yet not my will, but yours be done. We need to learn from Jesus when He was obedient even when it meant that He would go to the cross. Another lesson we learnt here was if the disciples were praying instead of sleeping they would not fall into temptation and fled when the Romans and the Jewish authorities came for Jesus, Peter would not have struck the servant of the high priest with his sword.
