Today's Reading Luke 23.26-56

Luke 23 with Commentaries, verse by verse

The order for the crucifixion was carried out. Luke 23.33-43; Matthew 27.33-44; Mark 15.22-32; John 19.17-24

This African American spiritual spoke to me.

Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?

Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?

Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?

I felt that I was there because of my sins He died for me. Were you there at the cross as well?

Arthur Pink:The Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross

The most important decision one can make in his or her life is what to do with Jesus Christ. There were two other crosses, one thief rejected Christ. the other realized that he sinned and he deserved what he got. He asked Jesus to remember him when he go into his kingdom. It is never too late to come to Jesus nor you are forgiven whatever sins you commit IF you come to Jesus, repent and turn away from the sin and ask him to be Lord and Savior in your life.

How to Become a Christian

In Luke 23.44-49; Matthew 27.45-56; Mark 15.33-41, Jesus was nailed to the cross at 9 a.m. From about noon until 3 p.m. darkness came over the land, The veil of the Holy of Holies was split in two and Jesus committed his spirit to God (v. 46). Because the veil was split we now have access into the Holy of Holies to God through Jesus Christ(Hebrews 10.19-25). The centurion supervising the crucifixion said that Jesus was a righteous man and praised God.

In Luke 23.50-56; Matthew 27.57-61; Mark 15.42-47; John 19.38-42 Jesus was buried in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb. Usually the remains of a crucified man would be unburied or at best be in a pauper’s field. Joseph had courage to ask for Jesus’ body in this situation. The women were at the cross. Except for John, where were the men? The women used spices such as aloes and myrrh to prepare Jesus’ body for burial on Friday afternoon. They had to rest on the Sabbath (Saturday).
