Samuel Brings About Transition
Today's reading Romans 6
This chapter deals with the ugliness of sin.For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Application
The bad news: You don't know horrible how sin is as God knows it. We are like pigs wallowing in our sins and completely unaware of its deadliness.
The good news: You are forgiven of your sins when you realize that you need God's forgiveness.
Verses to meditate upon: 23For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[b] Christ Jesus our Lord.

When God's hand is on a ministry, the large number will be added to it.
We should learn from Barnabas. He was a great man of God and an encourager. No one trusted Saul (Paul) but Barnabas tokk him under his wings and encouraged him.
Agabus predicted a severe famine throughout the Roman Empire, and the Christians all helped out.

John 14
The disciples knew that something was going to happen that night and they felt uneasy. Jesus comforts his disciples, by telling them that He was going to prepare a place for them. This should be a source of comfort to us as well. Another great 'I am' and a verse worth memorizing, is presented here: Jesus said 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.' We do not claim that Jesus is the way the Truth and the Life, He did! This may not be politically correct and sounds exclusive, but these are the words of Jesus.
John 14.15-31
Jesus promises the Holy Spirit if they loved Him and obey his command. It is not enough for us to say that we love Jesus, we have to obey Him as well. Let us talk about loving Jesus. It is simply this ‘If anyone loves me, he will obey my teachings. The bottom line is obedience to His teachings. The benefit is that the Father and Son will come to the obedient Christian and make their home with him. The Holy Spirit will teach us all things and will remind us of the words that He has said.
Verse to meditate and memorize: John 14.27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.
Jesus foretold that He was going away and He will come back to the disciples.

Today's Reading John 13.21-38
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 13
John 13.21-38
Being a prophet, Jesus foretold His betrayal. Scripture would be fulfilled that night when Judas betrayed Him (Psalm 41.9). The disciples were puzzled when Jesus said that one of them would betray Him. Jesus said that 'It is the one to whom I give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.' He gave the bread to Judas and Satan entered into him. He told Judas to go and do what he is about to do quickly indicating that he should hurry up and arrange the betrayal. You notice it said at the end of the passage:Itwas night
Do we understand that it is by the cross that the Son is glorified as well as God the Father. Verses to meditate on today: 34A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (NKJV) Unbelievers will know we are Christians not by the words or actions or by how devout we are, byt whether or not we love one another. When we get to 1 John we see love is a major theme of 1 John. John the apostle is known as the disciple whom Jesus love. He is the apostle who teaches about love.
Jesus as a prophet foretold Peter's denial (John 13.37-38; Matthew 26.33-35; Mark 14.29-31; Luke 22.33-34). Peter was always a man of action and words but we knew that he denied Christ three times. Let us be careful with our promises and vows we make to God.

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 13
John 13.1-30
Jesus surprised the disciples by washing their feet. In the Jewish culture at that time it was the menial task of a servant. There were no servant present and no one had volunteered to wash the disciples' feet. This was the only Gospel account of the feet washing. This was done during the meal not at the arrival and was done on puropose to teach them an object lesson. Jesus said 'I am among you as one who serves.' (Luke 22.27). Jesus told them that servant is greater than his master indicating that they should be as humble as He is and they would be blessed if they did what he had commanded them.

John 12.27-50
Jesus is a prophet like Isaiah and Jeremiah. He forthtold, that is, he warned the people about their sins and their need to turn back to God. he also foretold, He predicted the future. In this passage, He predicted he would die and rose from the dead. He gave the illustration of a kernel of wheat.
The Jews continued in their unbelief even when they heard what Jesus said and saw the miracles that Jesus did. This was to fulfil what Isaiah the prophet said in Isaiah 53.1; Isaiah 6.10. Verse 46 is a verse worth medidtating on: I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 12
John 12.1-8; Matthew 26.6-13; Mark `4.3-9; Luke 7.37-39 Jesus was anointed at Bethany with an expensive jar of perfume. We should not judge a person's motive when they give sacrificially to the Lord.
John 12.12-15; Matthew 21.4-9; Mark 11.7-10; Luke 19.35-38
Jesus came in Jerisalem on Palm Sunday riding on a colt fulfilling the prophecy in Zechariah 9.9. He came in as the Messiah not what the Jews as expected. He came in as a Lamb not as a Lion!

Today's Reading John 11.30-57
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 11
John 11.30-54
The shortest verse in the Bible is very relevant: 'Jesus wept.' Jesus knows the heartaches, pains and suffering of men and women when He was on earth, this is why He is the Great High Priest as described in Hebrews 4:15 (New International Version):
15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.

John 7.28-53
No one could seize Jesus because his time has not yet come (v. 30). We should know that God is in control of everything that has happened in our lives, nothing will happen to us UNLESS God permits it. The Pharisees had the word of God with the evidence of the coming of the Messiah from the Prophets, but they were blind and did not see who Jesus was. Jesus made a prophecy about Himself that He would go to the One who sent Him, and that they could not find Him, speaking of His death (v.33), and Ascension.
37On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, as[c] the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." 39By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. Jesus is the One who can quench our deepest spiritual longings, in Him we can be complete.
The Jewish leaders as before was filled with unbelief yet they have all the facts. Let us too be careful with our readings of Scripture. We need the Holy Spirit to reveal to us what God's will for us.

King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 7
John 7 with Commentaries, verse by verse
John 7.1-29
Jesus brothers did not understand much less knew him. They were embarassed by him and mocked him, telling him to go to Judea to perform some miracles for his disciple. It was after the resurrection that they came to a saving knowledge of him and were leaders in the church. Two epistles were written by them. One by James and the other by Jude. Are we embarassed by Jesus. Do we have acquainatnce with Him but we really don't know Him?
Jesus was under opposition by the Jewish leaders and they wanted to kill him. The people admired Jesus but were afraid to speak openly of Him lest they would be excommunicated from the synagogues. The Jewish leaders wondered how Jesus could have taught with such authority and wisdom. They had wanted to kill Him because He healed on the Sabbath. he pointed out to them that they themselves do 'work' in performing circumcision. Sometimes the eight day after a male child is born would fall on the Sabbath and they would have to circumcise the child.
How do you know that Jesus teaching is from God. If we do God's will we will find out that Jesus is from God. They asked if Jesus is the Christ. They were using the Old Testament to see if He was the Messiah. They thought they knew Him but they did not KNOW Him or the Father. He was from Nazareth, this was one of the Prophecies spoken from the Prophets but they did not get it. Do you know of Jesus, the things that He did but do you KNOW Him in a personal relationship? Today's Reading John 6.45-71
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia links: John 6
John 6 with Commentaries, verse by verse
John 6.45-71
Jesus continued by saying that no one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws that person to Him (Jesus). We cannot even boast that we came to Jesus because it is the Father who is responsible for that. He continued that they should eat his flesh and drink his blood referring to us participating in the Lord's Supper. The Jews were revolted by what he said. They taught that they were to literally eat His flesh and drink His blood. They though he was talking about cannibalism. Jesus was saying that we should participate in the Lord's Supper but it does not mean that we will saved by the sacrament. Rather throughout the discourse He spoke of salvation which is based on faith (v. 35, 40, 47, 51).
Many deserted Him because they could not accept what he taught. He knew that some would desert Him and even that Judas would betray Him. Let us be careful of our faith because it is so easy to desert Jesus or turn our backs on Him when things get tough. Peter had a very good point when he said, 'to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God. Judas was with Jesus for some three and a half years, he heard Jesus' words, saw his miracles, spent time with Him, yet he betrayed him. Let us be on the guard at all times lest we desert Jesus.

John 6.1-21
This is the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand as found in In John 6.1-13; Matthew 14.13-21; Mark 6.32-44; Luke 9.10-17. This shows that Jesus supplies all our needs (Philippians 4.19) and this set the stage for his discourse on 'I am the Bread of Life'(John 6.35). He fed the people because of a boy's lunch of five loaves and two fish. God can do amazing things through us IF we have the faith and obedience to be used from Him.
Jesus walked on the water (John 6.16-21; Matthew 14.22-33; Mark 6.47-51). The disciples were in the boat when the storm picked up. Jesus was walking towards them on the water. he said to them, 'do not be afraid.' We need to know that in the storms of life we should keep our eyes upon Jesus and not on the storm. He is the one owho can control the waves and storms of life.

John the beloved disciple wrote the Gospel of John, 1, 2, 3 John and Revelation. John portrayed Jesus as the Son of God. Starting from John 1:1 that Jesus is God to the 'I AM that I am' to 'I ams' of Jesus John urther information on John check the links below: Can you name the 'I ams' of Jesus?
John 1
The stumbling block for the Jews is when you say Jesus is God. There are three litmus tests to test what a person believes to see if he or she is a Christian. The first is Jesus is God, secondly Jesus rose from the dead and finally, you are saved by grace and not by works. Jesus is described as logos, the Word. Jesus is portrayed as the Son of God. Jesus IS God, He has no beginning and no end. John the Baptist came as the witness to the Messiah. how can God become a man that is a mystery which can only be taken by faith.
Jesus' Two Natures
Jesus is God
Jesus is a man
Bible verses that show Jesus is God
Verse 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. NKJV
Philippians 2.5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 9Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. NKJV
This is an awesome mystery that God becomes man. Let us thank God
Notice the conrast between light and darkness mentioned here and in 1 John 1. verse 12 is a promise for us 'Yet to all who received him to thise who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.'
John the Baptist was emphatic in denying that he was the Christ. He only acknowledged that he was the voice of one calling in the desert, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.' He was just the forerunner. In verse 27 he said 'He is the
one who comes after me, the thongs of shose sandals I am not worthy to untie.' We need to learn to be humble and be a servant like John the Baptist.

Who is John the Baptist?

Today's Reading Luke 24.36-53
Luke 24 with Commentaries, verse by verse
The two disciples went and told the Eleven that they saw Jesus and how He broke bread with them. Jesus appeared to them and said, 'Peace be with you.' He told them to look at His hands and feet and to touch Him. He then asked if they had anything to eat. He was showing them that He had a resurrected body and was not a ghost. He the said that everything was fulfilled, his death and resurrection. He then told them to preach the repentance and forgiveness of sins (Matthew 28, the Great Commission)
He then ascended into heaven, and they were full with joy and stayed continually at the temple praising God. So it is with our experience when we know the resurrected Lord, we know that He is victorious over death and sin and we have every reason to be joyful about the repentance and forgiveness of sin and having a new resurrected body like Jesus.

Today's Reading Luke 24.1-35
Luke 24
On Sunday, Luke 24.1-10; Matthew 28.1-8; Mark 16.1-8; John 20.1-8 the women brought more spices they had prepared to put on Jesus’ body. When they got there the tomb was empty and they saw two angels. They said that He was risen. They remembered his words that he would be crucified and buried and risen on the third day, Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women told the eleven apostles but they did not believe them! Peter, however, ran to the tomb and examine the strips of linen and he wondered to himself what happened. Isn’t amazing that Jesus told them repeatedly that he would rise from the dead and when it happened they did not believe him!
Luke 24:13-53
The two disciples unnamed were on the road to Emmaus, when they met Jesus. They walked and talked about the events of the week, yet they did not realize who He was until he broke bread, gave thanks and gave it to them. It said in verse 32 They asked each other, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Isn't that the way it is with us that we may have listened to a sermon, read the Bible, have quiet time but the Word did not speak to us until 'our eyes' were opened.

The order for the crucifixion was carried out. Luke 23.33-43; Matthew 27.33-44; Mark 15.22-32; John 19.17-24
This African American spiritual spoke to me.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they nailed Him to the tree?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
Oh! Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.
Were you there when they laid Him in the tomb?
I felt that I was there because of my sins He died for me. Were you there at the cross as well?
Arthur Pink:The Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross
The most important decision one can make in his or her life is what to do with Jesus Christ. There were two other crosses, one thief rejected Christ. the other realized that he sinned and he deserved what he got. He asked Jesus to remember him when he go into his kingdom. It is never too late to come to Jesus nor you are forgiven whatever sins you commit IF you come to Jesus, repent and turn away from the sin and ask him to be Lord and Savior in your life.

How to Become a Christian
In Luke 23.44-49; Matthew 27.45-56; Mark 15.33-41, Jesus was nailed to the cross at 9 a.m. From about noon until 3 p.m. darkness came over the land, The veil of the Holy of Holies was split in two and Jesus committed his spirit to God (v. 46). Because the veil was split we now have access into the Holy of Holies to God through Jesus Christ(Hebrews 10.19-25). The centurion supervising the crucifixion said that Jesus was a righteous man and praised God.
In Luke 23.50-56; Matthew 27.57-61; Mark 15.42-47; John 19.38-42 Jesus was buried in Joseph of Arimathea’s tomb. Usually the remains of a crucified man would be unburied or at best be in a pauper’s field. Joseph had courage to ask for Jesus’ body in this situation. The women were at the cross. Except for John, where were the men? The women used spices such as aloes and myrrh to prepare Jesus’ body for burial on Friday afternoon. They had to rest on the Sabbath (Saturday).

Jesus before Pilate
Jesus before the Sanhedrin: Luke 22.67-71; Matthew 26.63-66; Mark 14.61-63; John 18.19-21
Jesus before Pilate Luke 23.2-3; Matthew 27.11-14; Mark 15.2-5; John 18.29-37
Pilate could not find Jesus guilty of any crimes although there were many false accusation against him. When he found out that a Galilean, he sent him to Herod because Jesus would be under Herod’s jurisdiction.
Luke 23.8.-12 this is the only account of Jesus before Herod. Herod probably wanted to see him perform a miracle to entertain him. Jesus ignored Herod. Sometimes it is better not to cast your pearl before swine. We should be wise as serpents but harmless as doves.
Luke 23.13-43
Jesus before Pilate Luke 23.2-3; Matthew 27.11-14; Mark 15.2-5; John 18.29-37
Luke 23.18-25; Matthew 27.15-26; Mark 15.6-15; John 18.39-19.16
Pilate could not find Jesus guilty of any crimes although there were many false accusation against him. Pilate was a politician and he was a coward. He did what was politically expedient for number one (Pilate). He was willing to punish Jesus and then release him. There was a mob outside, and they incited the people to yell crucify him. It was either Jesus or Barabbas. Which one would you have picked facing that situation? Pilate decided to crucify Jesus, he did not want a riot on his hands or lose his political career.

Luke 22 with Commentaries, verse by verse
In Luke 22.47-52; Matthew 26.47-56; Mark 14.43-50; John 18.3-11, Jesus was arrested. It is interesting that Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard and the elders in verse 53….But this is your hour-when darkness reigns.
Peter disowns Jesus
Luke 22.55-62; Matthew 26.69-75; Mark 14.66-72; John 18.16, 25-27
The all-confident rash Peter became a coward when a servant girl and two other individual claimed that Peter was with Jesus. Each time, his language became stronger form the other Gospels. Let us not be too hard on Peter, what would you have done in this situation. It is very easy to say that I will follow and will die for Jesus but when the rubber meets the road and the situation is stark and real what would you do. This is why we need to pray that we wuld have the strenght and courage to stand up for Jesus.

Luke 22 with Commentaries, verse by verse
Simon Peter had a trial to face, Jesus had allowed Satan to sift hum as wheat. Jesus was understanding even today as our High priest because He knows our frailty. Peter meant it that he was ready to go with Jesus to prison and death. We may feel that way as well but we have the human flesh that we can also fail our Lord. Let us not say that we will be faithful to the Lord in trial and temptations but humble ourselves and pray for strength.
Jesus was letting them know that in the past, people had shown hospitality to them in verse 35, but now thing s would change, there would be opposition, the disciples would have to fend for themselves to pay for their clothing and provisions. Jesus mentioned even getting a sword. Then he pointed out that the prophecy about His death would soon be fulfilled/ The disciples were not listening to Jesus closely. They were focused on getting two swords. Jesus was sarcastic when He said to get two swords.
Luke 22.40-46; Matthew 26.36-46; Mark 14.32-42, Jesus went with his disciples to the Mount of Olives, He warned them about praying that they would not fall into temptation twice (v. 40 and 46) . He was obedient to the Father and set the Perfect example for us ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me, yet not my will, but yours be done. We need to learn from Jesus when He was obedient even when it meant that He would go to the cross. Another lesson we learnt here was if the disciples were praying instead of sleeping they would not fall into temptation and fled when the Romans and the Jewish authorities came for Jesus, Peter would not have struck the servant of the high priest with his sword.

Luke 22 with Commentaries, verse by verse
Luke 22.1-2; Matthew 26.2-5; Mark 14.1-2, 10-11, at the Feast of the Unleavened Bread, also called the Passover, Judas agreed to betray Jesus for money (30 pieces of silver) Why would someone do something like this?
Arrangements were made for the last supper (Luke 22.7-13; Matthew 20.17-19; Mark 14.12-16. Jesus gave the disciples instructions in getting an upper room for the last supper. What Jesus told them, He knew it would happen even though they went out in faith to follow His instructions. When the Lord wants us to do a particular task for Him we should go in faith and obedience and joyfully follow his instructions.
Luke 22.14-34
Luke 22.21-23; Matthew 26.21-24; Mark 14.18021; John 13.21-30 Jesus said that the hand of the who is going to betray him is with him. He meant Judas Iscariot.
In verses 13-23, Jesus use the bread and the wine to symbolize His death. Wheat has to be crushed to make bread in the same way His body was broken for us. Wine is made from grapes which are crushed and fermented. In the same way His body was crushed and blood was shed for us.
Can you imagine on that night the disciples were blind and were concerned about who was the greatest. He presented the paradox of greatness to them: To be the greatest you have to be a servant!! This is not the way of the world.

April 10 Readings
Luke 10.25-42, Commentaries, verse by verse
Luke 10.25-42
He was then tested by an expert in the law, who said to Him, ‘"Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26 He said to him, "What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?" 27 So he answered and said," 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'"
28 And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live." 29 But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?" Jesus told him the parable of the Good Samaritan. Please note the ones who should have come to the aid of the man who was robbed should have been the priest or the Levite. They were trained un the laws of God and should have shown mercy. Instead Jesus came up with the astonishing rescuer, a Samaritan who not only rescued the man but took him to an inn, and took care of him! Who were the Samaritans? Samaritans were ranked low in social standing and acceptance in the life of the Jews in Jesus’ day, they might as well have been a tax-collector, a prostitute.or a leper. But Jesus chose this example to teach an important object –lesson. He wanted to show the people that their neighbor could be anyone including a Samaritan. Let us be honest with ourselves and asked ourselves this question. Who is my neighbor?
Luke 10.38-42 Jesus was invited to the house of Martha and Mary. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet listening to Him while Martha was busy being hospitable.. Martha got frustrated with Mary and complain to Jesus to let Mary helped her. Jesus said that Mary had chosen what was better. We should learn to sit at Jesus’ feet by spending time in prayer, in the Word, and fellowship with Christian. These have a higher priority to the Lord than serving Him. When we do the sitting at His feet then the service will fall in place.

Luke 10 with Commentaries, verse by verse
In Luke 10.1-12, Jesus sent out another seventy two (Luke 10.4.12; Luke 9.3-5) in groups of two ahead of him to every town and place where he was to go. He spoke about the harvest being plentiful but the laborers are few. The same principle of nott taking a purse or bag or sandal applies, staying at people’s homes to those who are hospitable and to those who are in hospitable, wipe the dust off their feet. Those who reject the message will be punished. The principles that Jesus gave are principles we should use when considering discipleship and evangelism. Are doing evangelism and discipleship in our lives for the advancement of His Kingdom.
Jesus continued his instructions to the seventy two that he sent out. Those who reject the message who regret their decision. He then said to them in verse 16, "He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me." (NKJV). The seventy-two came back with good news of their mission, that even the demons submit to them in Jesus’ name’ Jesus reminded them that they should rejoice that their name are written in heaven, than the demons submitting ti them, He praised God that He had revealed it to the seventy-two, the little children as He called them not to the wise and learned of the world (1Corinthians 1.25). The he said to them "Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see; in verse 24 "for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it." (NKJV).

Luke 9 with Commentaries, verse by verse
The second event is the healing of the boy with an evil spirit (Luke 9.37-45; Matthew 17.14-18, 22,23; Mark 9.14-17, 30-32). Faith and prayer were needed to healed the boy.
The third event was when the disciples were arguing among themselves about who would be the greatest. Luke 9.46-48; Matthew 18.1-5; Luke 9.46-50; Mark 9.33-40 The Christian life is full of paradoxes. To be great, you have to be humble. disciples as to which of them would be the greatest. 47Jesus, knowing their thoughts, took a little child and had him stand beside him. 48Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is least among you all–he is the greatest.”
He also warned them against having exclusive groups among themselves. (v. 49-50) He said to the 'Do not stop him, for whoever is not against you is for you (even though he is not one of you)!

Luke 9:51-56
Samaritan Opposition
Jesus had determined to finish his mission on earth v. 51. He had sent messengers ahead of him for the Samaritan village to get things ready for him but the people did not want him there. But James and John asked Jesus if He wanted them to call fire from heaven to destroy the village but Jesus rebuked them and went to another village. This was John before he was changed by the Holy Spirit! He became the disciple who preached about God’s love. His brother James was the first martyr.
What does it cost to follow Jesus? (Luke 9:57-66; Matthew 6:19-22) Jesus saw three men who would be ‘wanna be’ disciples. The first one saw Jesus and said to him ‘I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied in Luke 9:58 And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head."(NKJV) The second one he said to follow him and he said that he should go and bury his father. Jesus replied ‘let the dead bury the dead..’ The third one said he would follow Jesus but let him go and say goodbye to his family. Jesus replied in verse 62 "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God." (NKJV).. We have many in the churches who say that they are disciples of Jesus. Well if they are, praise God. The requirements are 1) Material things should not hinder us from being disciples. The second is family relationship which should be second to the total commitment to Christ and thirdly, a total commitment to Jesus Christ means looking forward. This is like plowing in the old days, the farmer looks straight ahead when he is plowing the field and does not look back. Let us be honest with ourselves here, is Jesus above material wealth, family and an unswerving undivided attention in our lives?

Today's Readings Luke 9.18-36
Luke 9 with Commentaries, verse by verse
In Luke 9.18-20; Matthew 16.13-16; Mark 8.27-25, Peter confesses Jesus as the Christ. Jesus predicted His death and resurrection (v. 21-22). 23Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. 24For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. 25What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? 26If anyone is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. 27I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God.”
In (Luke 9.28-36; Matthew 17.1-8; Mark 9.2-8)
Luke gave an account of the Transfiguration experience where Jesus met Moses and Elijah/ What was the significance of the Transfiguration? According to the NIV Study Bible, (1) it was a revelation of the glory of the Son of God, a glory that is hidden now but to be fully revealed when He will return, (2) a confirmation of the teaching of Jesus to the disciples that He was the Messiah and He would give Peter the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, (3) a beneficial experience for the disciples who were discouraged when Jesus spoke about His death and resurrection. Have you ever thought about Jesus in all of hIs glory. Then you would falll on your face like the Apostle John when He had a vision of Jesus in Revelation 1.9-20.
